OBITUARY Chariton Herald Patriot Thursday Oct 26, 1939 Oscar N Almkuist
Oscar Natanael Almkuist was born in Lava, Skaraborgs, Lan Sweden, on April 10 1873, and died a the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on October 18, 1939 at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 8 days. In 1895 Mr. Almkuist came to America and made his home near Oskaloosa. He was only eighteen years old at that time. He was a coal miner by occupation and worked in the mines near Buston and for the past 26 years near Chariton. Mr. Almkuist became a member of the First Lutheran congregation in Chariton in 1914. For the past five years he has served as a member of the Board of trustees. He was faithful, kind and gentle and will be sorely missed by relatives and by a large circle of friends by whom he was very highly regarded. Mr. Almkuist never married. Surviving him are his three brothers, John of Sweden and Gust and Charles of this city, also a half sister, Anna in Sweden. Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran church in Chariton, Friday afternoon, Rev. C.W. Thorwald conducting the services under the auspices of the I.O.O.F. order. Burial was in the Chariton cemetery.This is not a relative of mine but since included with a paper copy I received thought I would share it with others.
