OBITUARY Chariton Herald Patriot Thursday Oct 26, 1939 Gust Alfred Lager
Gust Alfred Lager was born Mary 19, 1880 in Whitebreast township, near Chariton, Lucas county, Iowa and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter G. Lager. He grew to manhood in this vicinity and his entire life was spent here until about ten years ago when he went to Des Moines where he had since resided. He began working for the Burlington Railway Company about forty years ago and continued in their service until the time of his death on October 20, 1939. He was united in marriage to Emma Flynn on May 19, 1934. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Emma Lindstrom of Regina, Sask., Canada and Mrs. Freda Johnson of Chariton, Iowa; and a sister in law Myrtle Lager of Chariton, and several nephews and nieces and other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Albert and Sam and one sister Mollie. He was converted under the ministry of Rev. Titus Pohl, then pastor of the Swedish Mission church in Des Moines, Iowa several years ago. He lived a quiet, respectable life, loved by all who knew or came in contact with him. Funeral services were held Monday October 23, 1939, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hamilton funeral home, 520 East 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa and were conducted by Rev. A.D. Mohr of the Grand View Baptist church. Interment was in Laurel Hill cemetery 3600 East Court Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa.
