Tuesday, December 7, 2004Ruth Irene Vredenburg, 89, died Saturday, December 4, 2004 at the Chariton Rehab and Care Facility in Chariton, IA. Memorial services were held at the Fielding Funeral Home. The Rev. Jean Norton and the Rev. Tony Pulatie officiated.
Ruth was born on June 3, 1915 at home in Centerville, IA, the daughter of David Thomas and Bessie Mae (Heriford) Taylor. She was a graduate of Centerville High School and attended Graceland College in Lamoni, IA. At Graceland, she met Dwight Vredenburg, whom she married on April 25, 1937 in Chillicothe, MO. They were married 65 years and were parents of three children. She worked side by side with Dwight in the Centerville Hy-Vee store before moving to Chariton. She was involved in many civic organizations, including the Aeolian Singers, church choir, TTT, PEO, and Republican Women. Ruth enjoyed her children, John (Linda) Vredenburg of Chariton, Martha (Mike) Kraklow of Muscatine and Church (Rhonda) Vredenburg of Cumming; twelve grandsons; one granddaughter; five great-grandchildren; sister Marge Barrett; sister-in-law, Helen (Roy) Van Der Kamp; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Bessie Taylor; her husband, and grandsons, Brandy and Aaron Vredenburg.
Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or to the Senior Center in Chariton.
