Royal V. Peterson, 81, of Chariton died of complications of diabetes Friday, July 13, 2001 at home. Services were held at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, with burial at the Chariton Cemetery.

Royal was born in 1920 in Buxton, IA and had lived in Chariton most of his life. He had been a self-employed carpenter and enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by two sons, Howard Howell of Lucas and Royal Peterson of Sedalia, MO.; six daughters, Carolyn Howell of Humeston, Linda Schugt of Peoria, AZ, and Evelyn Grove, Peggy Lockner, Roberta Baker and Judy Miner, all of Chariton; a brother, Dale Peterson of Chariton; a sister, Mae Wiese of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
