Mrs. Neil Anderson
Passed away suddenly at her home last Sunday night Innumerable friends throughout the country were greatly shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden passing away of Mrs. Neil Anderson, of Benton Township, which occurred at her home sometime Sunday night, death evidently coming at an early hour Monday morning, July 18, 1926. Her demise was probably due to the heart trouble with which she had been afflicted for some time. She had been in usual health Sunday. And on Saturday made a trip to this city and did some shopping. Her son, Charles C Anderson, who lives near her, went to her home Monday morning at 6:30 o’clock and not noticing her about looked in the bedroom window and saw her lying on the floor. He forced an entrance to the house and on reaching her side found that life was extinct.
Emma Peterson was born in Kane Co. Ill, on April 26, 1858 and at the time of her death was 68 years 2 months & 22 days. When about 10 years of age she came with her parents to Wayne Co. IA, later coming to Lucas County. In early womanhood she united with the M E church, later transferring membership to the United Brethren church at Otterbein. On December 25, 1874 she was united in marriage to Mr. Neil Anderson, who departed this life a few months ago, on February 9, 1926. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Ellen Willits, now deceased, and John F and Charles C, both of Benton TWP. Mrs. Anderson also reared one stepson, Ed S. Anderson of Chariton, giving him the care and devotion of a real mother. Besides these sorrowing ones she is also survived by seven grandchildren and by five brothers, one sister, and a host of friends, to whom the sympathy of all will be extended. She was a faithful and affectionate wife and mother, and consistent Christian, honoring the Lord and the Church. She was highly esteemed by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Largely attended funeral services, conducted by Rev. G J Cornford, were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 O’clock. It had been expected to hold the service at Otterbein church, but on account of the downpour of rain these plans were changed. Interment took place in the Chariton Cemetery.
