The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, March 26, 1908

SAIDEE C. FINCH, daughter of MR. and MRS. H.M. FINCH, passed from earth to
life eternal on Friday evening, March 20, 1908. She had been sick less than
a week, but on Thursday it became evident to the attending physician that
her condition was very serious. Skilled medical aid was summoned from
Chariton and Des Moines, and on Friday afternoon an operation was performed
in hopes that life might be prolonged. But hope was vain, and ere the night
had scarcely begun, the sorrowing relatives stood by the bedside, received
the parting message, "All is well," and bade farewell to SAIDEE, the loved
daughter and sister.

Feb. 15, 1883 the babe entered the home. It grew to childhood; from
childhood to womanhood, quiet and unassuming. Acquaintances became friends,
and these are they who now mourn her untimely departure from among us. In
June, 1907, SAIDEE, in company with her father, attended a camp meeting at
Oskaloosa, where she surrendered herself to Christ, and as she neared the
river of death she "feared no evil," but realized that "thy rod and thy
staff they comfort me."

On Monday a vast concourse of friends and relatives assembled at Columbia
where funeral services were conducted at 11 o'clock, by the pastor, Rev. W.C
Smith. Following the services the funeral cortege wended its way to the
city of the dead. Six loved and loving companions, the Misses Mattie Long,
Verna Duncan, Stella Wilson, Nora and Bertha Welch and Nora Loynachan, bore
the silent form to the open grave, where it was consigned to earth awaiting
the glory of the resurrection. When that day shall come may these dear
friends be united where parting shall be no more. The last page is written,
the book is closed, but memory will perpetuate the influence of this
unselfish life.

In the family circle, at Sunday school, among her assiciates she will be
sadly missed, but from the eternal city may they catch the whisper of a
spirit-redeemed calling them higher and saying "I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
