The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, February 13, 1908

WILLIAM JAY DAWSON was born in Chariton, Iowa, May 21st, 1882, and died
February 8th, 1908, at the age of 25 years, 8 months and 18 days. His life
was spent in about this city, where he made many friends. He leaves to
mourn his loss a wife and one child, besides his parents, MR. and MRS. W.N.
DAWSON, and four brothers and three sisters. The brothers are CHAS., of
Davenport, Iowa; HARRY J., of Belle Plaine, Iowa; ED. and BOYD, of Chariton.
The sisters are MRS. LOU M. HOWARD, of Des Moines; MRS. ROSE WEAVER, of St.
Joseph, Mo.; and MRS. MAUD PETTIJOHN, of Creston, Iowa.

WILLIAM is the fifth child of MR. and MRS. DAWSON to die. He had been a
great sufferer for several years from tuberculosis and a complication of
diseases.

The deceased was converted and baptized into the Baptist Church at the age
of 16 years. But like many others he forgot his first love. However, he
returned to his Father one week before he died. He said Jesus seemed to be
right by his side giving him strength to bear his sufferings. It was his
constant delight to pray to God and to talk of His goodness to sinners. He
could not sing, but whistled his favorite hymns, and prayed for those about
him who were out of Christ. It is a comfort to his friends to believe that
he is asleep in Jesus. "Blessed sleep, from which none ever wake to weep."

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, Monday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. Hugh Moore, and the remains interred in the Chariton
Cemetery.
