The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, February 6, 1908

BARBARIA WOODS was born in Lorence County, Ohio, Feb. 14, 1827, and died at
the residence of her son, S.J. STUMBAUGH, in Lucas County, Feb. 3, 1908, at
the ripe age of 80 years, 11 months and 19 days. She moved to the State of
Indiana with her parents while young.

On Jan. 8, 1846, she was united in marriage to JAMES STUMBAUGH. To this
union were born eleven children, three sons and eight daughters, six of
which yet survive. Three of the departed ones died in early life. MRS.
PERNINAH RIGGS died in the 45th year of her age, and MRS. THEODOSIA CANFIELD
died in her 45th. She moved from Indiana in 1855 to Lucas County, Iowa, and
has been a resident of Lucas County ever since with the exception of four
years residence in Wayne County, Iowa.

She was converted to the faith of Christ previous to 1860. She united with
Goshen Baptist Church of Lucas County, and has been a faithful follower of
her Master and a member of said church ever since. Her husband who was a
helpmeet for her in the work of the Master, departed this life Jan. 20 1907,
and left the aged companion to remain with the children who furnished all
the comfort and pleasure possible, but none like the companion of her youth,
so she like a shock of corn when it is fully ripe, waiting for the harvest
time, when He whom she had served and obeyed so long thrust in the sickle
and the harvest is gathered home. Thus we can say that a faithful servant
has gone to her reward. Four of the children were present to pay their last
sad rites, A.C. STUMBAUGH and MRS. ARMINA THELANDOR of Sock County, Neb.,
who were not present.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. M.S. Clark at Goshen Church, Feb
5, at 2:30 o'clock, and interment made in the Goshen Cemetery. The
bereaved ones have the sympathy of all. The children extend their thanks to
the neighbors and friends for their kindness during the sickness and death
of their mother.
