MRS. FLORA BELLE VAN DYKE was born in Bethlehem, Wayne County, Iowa, July 9,
1863, died at her home in Russell, Sabbath evening at 10:15 o'clock, after a
lingering illness of many months. She was the eldest daughter of M.H.
BRANHAM and first wife, and with her father she leaves two sisters, MRS. IDA
JONES of Chariton, and MRS. NITHA JONES of Kansas, to mourn her loss besides
a step-mother and two sisters, and many other relatives and friends. Her
mother and brother preceded her to the spirit world. On Oct. 26, 1882, she
was united in marriage to J.D. VAN DYKE, who has been dead only a few years.

She made a profession of religion and united with the Presbyterian Church
here, May 12, 1907, of which she was an active and consistent member at the
time of her death. She loved her church and was never happier than when she
could be present at the services or lend her flowers to make the services
attractive. She seemed especially to enjoy the music and helped to furnish
us with new song books. Her husband and her father being engaged in
business together, she was the chief counselor of the firm, and a constant
adviser to her father both financially and physically until her death. She
was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was proud of her friends and was not
afraid to speak a good word for her minister and her church. The Rebekah
Lodge took charge of the services at the grave. Relatives in attendance: Mr
and Mrs. Ed Jones, of Chariton; Mr. Sandy Jones and wife, of Plano; Mr. and
Mrs. Wall Jones, of Promise City; Mr. and Mrs. Byron Van Dyke, of Chariton.
