Obituary Alice Munson

Alice Bethany Hughes, Daughter of Mr. & Mrs. G.W. Hughes, was born near Burlington, Iowa September 15. 1893 and died at her home in Chariton, Iowa on February 25, 1953. She first attended school at the old Greenville school in Russell, Southeast of Russell. The family left the farm in that community and lived it Ottumwa for a short time, then returned to Lucas County, locating in Derby, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. When fire destroyed the home, she was employed on the Mallory estate where she met & Married Peter August Munson, September 7, 1897 at the home of John Holmes. The couple remained on the Mallory property until after the birth of their first son, Ray. In 1899 they moved
To South 14th street in Chariton, Where in 1902 their second son Elmer was born.

She is survived by her son Elmer, a daughter in law, Mrs. Mike Kenney, 2 grandsons Raymond & Paul Munson and a number of nieces & Nephews. Her husband and older son Ray preceded her in death.

Mrs. Munson was baptized and united with the church early in life and was active in the work of her church as long as her health permitted. Her unfailing humor and sunny disposition will be remembered by those who knew her best. Because of her faith in Christ she had no fear of death, and quietly went to sleep – that sleep from which one wakens in the life immortal.
Funeral services were held from the Miley funeral home at 2:pmSaturday, with the reverend Robert Swick in charge. Burial in the Chariton cemetery.
