John Nicklas Curran, born in Alexis, Ill., June 3, 1862 and passed away at his home in Lucas county, Iowa, May 13 at the age of 77 years.
He moved to Lucas county from Alexis in 1894 where he has resided on his farm east of Russell for 46 years.
In 1900 he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Barry. To this union seven children were born. Dannie and Johnnie of Russell, Mrs. Frank Ward and Mrs. Thomas McCarty of Melrose and Alfred and Maurice at home. One son preceded him in death. He leaves 18 grandchildren to mourn his loss.
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick’s church Wednesday morning with the Rev. Father J.J. Welsh officiating. Bearers were Andy Donahue, J.J. Curran, Orin Kenmonth, James Curran, Charles Smith and Pat Cronin.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Jack Curran and son of Bradford, Ill.; Hattie Akin and Leo Golbie of Meponset, Ill.; Mrs. Kirk Warner of Kansas City, Mo.; George Martin of Creston; James Curran and family of Ottumwa; Mrs. Gay Lemley, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Curran, Mr. and Mrs. Byrl Wadesley of Des Moines.
