Otis T. Niswender, eldest son of George H. and Laura Douglass Niswender, was born August 27, 1883, on a farm in Liberty township, Lucas county and departed this life at his home in Chariton, April 28, 1965, at the age of 81 years, eight months and one day.
His entire life was spent in Lucas county, with the exception of seven years in Nebraska and Colorado, where he moved his family endeavoring to benefit the health of a daughter Evelyn.
On November 20, 1904 he was united in marriage with Velma Arnold at the home of her parents near Norwood. To this union seven children were born, three of whom are deceased, a daughter Evelyn and two sons Lyle and Guy.
He is survived by his devoted wife Velma and four daughters, Gladys and Gayla of Lucas, Helen and Lois of Chariton, three sons in-law, Terry Pennington, Robert Langford and Ralph Marker, seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandsons. Also one sister Mrs. Flossie Baker of Lacona, many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was a member of the Chariton Bible Church and served on the church board for some time. he was a kind and loving husband and father, quiet, unassuming and always truthful to his fellow men.
He will be sadly missed by his loved ones and all who knew him; but God's will be done.
Services were conducted at the Norwood church on April 30, at 2 p.m., with the Beardsley Funeral home in charge. The Rev. Silas Anderson, and the Rev. LaRoy Anderson, officiated with burial at the Norwood cemetery
