William Henry Lane

William Henry Lane, son of W. M. and Mary Lane, was born Aug. 31, 1859, at Richmond, Iowa, and passed away at this home in Lucas, Iowa, on July27, 1941, at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 27 days.

At the age of three years he moved with his parents to Wayne county and four years later to Chariton. In 1882 he went to Lucas where the remainder of his life was spent.
On Ja. 15, 1889, he was married to Sarah E. Coleman and to this union seven children were born. Those living are James W., of Yakima, Wash; Mrs. Maude Lovell, of Millerton, Iowa; Geroge W., Ethel and Madie, all of Lucas; and Raymond A. of Newton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1928 and by an infant daughter.

Mr. Lane was a carpenter by trade and had worked in and around Lucas for many years. In a meeting held by Evangelist Jones about 15 years ago he was converted and placed his membership with the Methodist church of Lucas.

He had been in failing health for a number of years, becoming nearly blind during the last year, but he bore his afflictions with great patience and fortitude.

Besides the six children he is survived by 27 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; one brother. M. M. Lane, of Des Moines, IA.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Sydebotham, of Courtland, Nebr., and Mrs. Belle McHale, of Omaha, Nebr., also several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals, of Russell were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Lucas Methodist church, and burial was in the Goshen cemetery.
