Mrs. W. H. Lane

Funeral services for Mrs. William Henry Lane, of Lucas, who died at her home Sunday following a stroke of paralysis, were held at the Methodist church in Lucas Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by Rev. Paul H. Hicks of the Chariton M. E. church, and burial was in the Goshen cemetery.

Sarah E. Coleman was born December 28, 1859, in Fulton County Illinois, and passed away at her home in Lucas on Sunday, Dec. 4, 1938, at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 6 days.

She came with her parents in a covered wagon to Lucas county when 9 years of age, Lucas having been her home since 1882. On Jan 15, 1880, at Chariton, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Wm. H. Lane, and to this union seven children were born, six of whom survive her. Mrs. Lane had been in poor health for about ten years and practically an invalid for the last five years.

She was converted in her youth and has always been true to her faith, being a member of the Methodist church at Lucas at the time of her death. She got the greatest comfort during her sickness from the church services she was permitted to listen to over the radio. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and never complained, even though her lot seemed quite severe at times.

She leaves to mourn her passing her faithful husband; six children, James W. Lane of Chariton; Mrs. Maude Lovell, of Runnells, Iowa; George M. Lane, of Lucas; Ethel and Madie, at home; and Raymond, of Newton, Iowa; 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Alice Lyman, of Chariton, and a host of friends who will mourn her departure.
