Mrs. John Lane of Lucas, died at the home of her son, Elmer Lane, near Des Moines, Iowa on Sunday, March 12, 1933, at the age of 80 years and 9 months, after an illness of over two years. The body was brought to Chariton and taken to the Downs Funeral Home and on Tuesday afternoon at two oclock funeral services were held at the M E church in Lucas, conducted by Rev. M.C. Shupe of Indianola, followed by burial on the Goshen cemetery.

Mary Ellen Coleman, daughter of Moses and Savannah Coleman was born in Canton, Illinois on June 13, 1852. When a young lady she came with her parents to Chariton, Iowa. She was married here in 1874 at the age of nineteen years to John M. Lane, who survives her. To this union ten children were born, three daughters and seven sons. Four children proceeded her in death. Those surviving are Mrs. Minnie Leach, of Kansas City, Mo.; Elmer Lane, of Des Moines; Charles Lane of California; Mrs. Eva Benge, of Van Meter; Bert Lane of Lucas; and Floyd Lane, of Runnells; also thirty-nine grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Lane of Lucas and Mrs. Alice Lyman, of Chariton.

While residing in Illinois deceased united with the United Brethren church at the age of sixteen years, but after coming to Iowa united with the Methodist church. She was highly regarded by everyone, was a wonderful home maker, wife and mother, and will be sadly missed by her husband, children and other relatives and friends.

Lane, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Blakely, Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Cunion, Harold Fleming, all of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith and children, James Lane, Mrs. Alice Lyman and sons, Will and Gaylord, and daughter, Helen, H. C. Lane, Mr. and Mrs. Ab Lane, all of Chariton; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Lane and children, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Lovell, of Runnells; Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Lane, of Madrid; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lane, of Newton; Mr. and Mrs. Perry Benge and son, of James of Ottumwa; Mac Lovell, Mr. and Mrs. Denny Lovell, Mr. and Mrs. George Lovell and daughter, of Lacona; and Rev. and Mrs. Clare Shupe of Indianola.
