1940 Obituary

Retta Jane Hutchins, daughter of William and Mary Lane, was born in Wayne county, Iowa on may 31, 1857, and passed from this life on May 29, 1940, at her home in Lucas, Iowa, a the age of 82 years, 11 months and 29 days.

She grew to young womanhood in Wayne county and on February 13, 1876, she was united in marriage to Geo. T. Sydebotham. The new home was established on a far near Oakley, Iowa. They lived in Lucas county until 1890 when they moved to Des Moines where Mr. Sydebotham died August of that year.

Five children were born to this union, all of whom are living. They are Fred Sydebotham, of Lucas, Mrs. Bess Cunnnion, of Des Moines; Claude Sydebotham of Thornburg; and Harry Sydebotham and Mrs. Mabel Rogers of Omaha, Nebr.

Besides the sons and daughters she leaves to mourn her departure 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Sydebotham, of Courtland, Nebr. and Mrs Belle McHale, Omaha, Nebr., two brothers, Harry Lane of Lucas and M. M. Lane of Des Moines.

On March 25, 1898, she was married to B. M Hutchins and their home was located in Lucas with the exception of three years spent in Warren county. Mr. Hutchins died on June 14, 1936. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and one grandchild.

Almost 50 years ago Mrs. Hutchins accepted Christ as her Savior and placed her membership with the c Christian Union church. Throughtout theneyars she lived a loyal, consistent christian life. She will be greatly missed in the home circle and in this community where more than fifty years of her life have been spent.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals, of Russell, where held Freiday afternoon at two o'clock at the Lucas Presbyterian church, and burial was in the Rose Hill cemetery.
