MALACHI LANE DIES

Malachi Lane was born February 6, 1809 in Franklin Co., Ohio to William Lane and unknown. He married Elizabeth Rion/Ryan/Ryun , the daughter of Benjamin and Nancy Rion/Ryan April 17, 1828 in Madison Co., Ohio.

To this union eight children were born, William Newton, James Albert, Samuel H., Margaret F., Adam W., Benjamin H. Lewis L. They adopted a son John O. Huddleston according to census records.

The family left Ohio and moved to Lucas Co., IA in 1855. They first appear on this census. Malachi was a farmer by trade until his health became so severe he could no longer work. Their son Benjamin H. worked and supported his parents. When he enlisted into the Civil War, part of his pay was sent to his parents so they would have money to live. He was killed in the War and so Malachi applied for his pension, but was turned down. His mother Elizabeth then applied for the pension and after many affidavits and letters was given a pension.

Malachi died May 26, 1882 in probably Union Twp. Wayne Co., IA. He is buried in the Chariton Cemetery, Chariton, Lucas Co., IA.

( No obituary was found in the local newspapers for Malachi, so I have written one for him. Freida Wells 2-25-09)
