Olive Calhoun – Died –
Chariton Leader July 12, 1994

Olive M. Calhoun, 102, of Chariton, died Sunday, July 10 at the Chariton Manor.

She was a longtime Derby resident, moving to Chariton following the death of her husband Harry.

She had been a resident of the Chariton Manor for the past several years.

She is survived by her daughter Betty Hedgcock of Fort Collins, Co.

Funeral services have been tentatively set for Wednesday, July 13 at the Fielding Funeral Home.

A surprise birthday party was held for resident Olive Calhoun, pictured, who celebrated her 101st birthday on June 15. Those in attendance were her daughter, Betty Hedgecock, and her husband Tom of Austin, Texas, Harold and Flora Evans of Humeston, Gretchen Cardaman of Des Moines, Emily Cardaman of Silver Thorne, Colo., Jean Davidson of Des Moines, Sherry Davidson and children, Lucy Stansbery, Lucille Young, Taryn Anderson and Joan Kingsbury of Chariton, Janet Cottrell, Audrey McKnight, and Marilyn Snodgrass of Carlisle, Kenneth and Virginia Kyner of Garden Grove, Pauline Trumbo and Wilma Peterson of Chariton, Theobell Mock of Des Moines, Carline Roof of Mason City, Clara Eggers of Humeston and Mamie Patterson of Indianola.

After receiving many nice gifts and flowers, Olive had still another surprise. She received a personal telephone call from the President of the United States, Bill Clinton, wishing her a happy birthday.

Olive Calhoun celebrated her 102nd birthday on June 15. Her daughter, Betty Hedgecock and her husband of Ft. Collins, Colo., were here to be with her and hosted a party in honor of Olive’s birthday.
