Chariton newspaper, December 1958:
Vashti Pfrimmer Kornhaus, second daughter of Clay and Mattie Lipe Pfrimmer, was born in Otter Creek Township in Lucas County, Iowa, on January 8, 1889. She attended the Wren Hill rural school, Chariton High School, Iowa State Teachers College, and Leland Stanford University in California.
She taught in the rural schools of Lucas County and the elementary schools in Chariton. Later she taught in other Iowa schools, in Montana, and Utah before going to Oakland, California in 1920. She taught in Oakland until her retirement in 1951.
In 1939, she was married to Franklin Kornhaus, who preceded her in death in 1950.
In November of 1954, she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage from which she never fully recovered. In August of this year, she came to Iowa and has since made her home with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Norris C. Price. Her health became worse and early on Saturday morning, December 13, she entered the St. Joseph Hospital in Centerville, Iowa; and passed away there at 11 o'clock that morning.
She has been a member of and active in the Methodist church since her youth. For a number of years she was Superindendent of the Methodist Chinese Sunday School in Oakland and has continued her interest in the Chinese work to the time of her death.
Five years ago, she adopted a seven year old girl in India and has provided for her education.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one brother, Sam; and two sisters, Mable and Ruth.
Survivors include four brothers and five sisters: Ada Patterson of Omaha, Nebraska; Blonda Koepke of Washington State; John Pfrimmer of Derby; George Pfrimmer of Boone; Saxon Pfrimmer of Lucas; Mary Hopkins of Denver, Colorado; Helen Price of Centerville; Charlotte Kelley of Osceola; and Wilbur Pfrimmer of Lucas. She leaves, also, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 15, 1958 at the Beardsley Funeral Home.
The Rev. Frank Johnson of Centerville officiated at the services. Interment was made in the Norwood Cemetery.
