The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, September 23, 1908

S.M. GREENE has sold his Chariton Herald to a syndicate of newspaper men,
composed of S.L. Robinson, formerly of the Coin Gazette, Paul Junkin of the
Creston Advertiser, and Charles Junkin of the Fairfield Ledger. The
editorial and business management will be directly under the control of Mr.
Robinson, who is an excellent newspaper man.

S.M. GREENE has been at the helm almost 8 years and has made good and has
built up a fine property and has reaped his reward in a handsome profit,
selling the office for a price between nine and ten thousand dollars. He
says he has no plans formulated for the future, but of course will not
remain inactive long. The Leader regrets to see MR. GREENE retire from the
field as he has been neighborly and accommodating, which proved mutually
beneficial, but we extend the right hand of fellowship to the new
proprietors.

It is also stated that the paper will no longer be classed as a progressive
republican, at least the Junkins are not that brand of partisans.
