Harriet Gauss graduated from Wapello High School on May 21, 1936.

This article looks like it could be for some type of reunion, because the blurb states that "Letters were shared from ... and Harriet Gauss Buttrick who could not..."

This website has an obituary for Merrill O. Buttrick. He married a Harriet Gauss in Burlington, Iowa in 1951.

I don't know if these last two are your Harriet or not, but perhaps they will give you some clues.
