David W. Gerst Sr.

OAKVILLE (Iowa) - David William Gerst Sr., 78, Oakville, died in Wa­pello Nursing Home at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 22 (1980). He was born Aug. 18, 1902, near Oakville to Otto and Elizabeth Mau­er Gerst.

He married Hattie Hardin Nov. 4, 1926, in Burlington; she died May 20, 1967.

Mr. Gerst was a retired farmer and truck driver for Oakville Feed and Grain Co.

Surviving: Seven sons, Richard, Springfield, Mo.; David, Lomax, Ill.; James, Hedrick; Raymond, Me­diapolis; John, Burlington, and Donald and Roger, both of Oakville; six daughters, Ruth Ann Humiston, West Des Moines; Elizabeth Street and Kathryn Fletcher, both of Wa­pello; Carol Hartman, Fairfield, and Janet Shipman and Mary Lynn Grooms, both of Oakville; brother Paul, Oakville; sister Tillie Gerst, Phoenix, Ariz.; 43 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday, Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, the Rev. William Moon; Edwards Cemetery.
