Page 1Miss Samantha Siverly was born in Louisa county, near Morning Sun, Dec. 18, 1846, and died near Wapello May 12, 1910, at nine o'clock. She was the daughter of E. W. Siverly, one of the very first pioneers in this county, having come here from Pennsylvania in 1837, locating in Morning Sun. She was of a family of fifteen, eleven of whom grew to manhood and womanhood. She joined the Methodist church in her early girlhood and united with the Presbyterian church a few years ago.
She was married to J. L. Jarvis June 10, 1869, at the old home north of Morning Sun and resided in this county all her life. Seven children were born to them, two dying in infancy. Two daughters died in young womanhood and one son at the age of twenty-one years. Two sons survive. She is also survived by her husband, three sisters and five brothers- one sister in California, one brother in Arizona and one in Ringold county, Iowa; one brother, E. I. Siverly, of Morning Sun, Ia., and a sister, Mrs. A. E. Baldrige, residing west of Wapello, besides a great company of friends. She was a woman of good intellectual abilities, having taught school for many years. Her failure in health began about two years ago.
For some months she had been in precarious condition but seemed some better the day of her death. The summons came suddenly, though not unexpectedly. Her entrance into rest was peaceful. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Morning Sun Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. W. J Gerlach, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Wapello. Interment in Elmwood cemetery.
