Frederick Clarence Elrick was born in Keithsburg, Mercer county, Illinois, May 17, 1859, and died in Iowa City, Iowa, April 13, 1909, aged 40 years, 10 months and 26 days. He was the son of Jacob and Katherine Elrick, and was the eighth child on their family of seven sons and five daughters. His childhood and boyhood days were spent in Illinois. When he was about eighteen years of age he moved with his parents to Louisa county, Iowa, the family making their home in Eliot township, at what is know as Elrick. At the age of twenty-two he was married to Miss Patience Scull at Morning Sun, Iowa, February 2, 1882. To them were born two children, a son and a daughter, both of whom died in infancy.

After two or three years spent on the farm Mr. and Mrs. Elrick moved to Elrick Junction where he conducted its only store and in which he was carried on a successful business for the last 24 years. As a business man he was about reproach in every thing. His business place was not only helpful to the community, but his life in it drew his customers to him as personal friends. As a citizen he was public spirited and took kindly interest in what ever was good. As a neighbor he was fraternal and highly esteemed. As a husband he was true, noble, affectionate and tender. About fifteen years ago Mr. Elrick became an active christian and united with the Methodist Protestant church. In the remodeling of their house of worship at Fairview he took a leading part and spared neither toil nor means to bring it to completion. He has taken an active part in its congregational life. Only twelve days before his death he was in his place in the house of God.

The sudden break in his health came as a surprise and almost a shock to himself and to all. Soon his family physician saw that something most serious was before them. Loved ones, friends and physicians rendered to him every possible aid, but all was of no avail. He will be laid to rest in the Wapello cemetery where the bodies of both mother and father await the morning of the resurrection. The funeral was held this morning at 11 o'clock at the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. J. E. Newsom, who furnished the above obituary, assisted by the pastor, Rev. Gerlach.
