After lingering for several days between life and death, the final summons came to Cornelius Murphy Sr. last Thursday afternoon about five o'clock. The deceased was born March 25th, 1826, thus making him at the time of death aged 78 years and 26 days. He came to Louisa county in the year 1865. He made his home on a fine farm five miles west of Wapello until a few weeks ago, when he purchased a residence property in this city. He had reared a family of six sons, who all live here and present at interval at his bedside during his last hours. They are Cornelius Jr., John, Daniel, Patrick, Jerry and Dennis.

The mother died several years ago and he was married a second time, the widow surviving to mourn with the children a fond husband and parent. He also leaves a brother, Daniel and sister Katherine, who reside in Pennsylvania. The funeral services were held from the Christian church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Father Lowrey, of Burlington and were attended by a large gathering of old friends and neighbors. The remains were laid to rest in Wapello cemetery.
