George Weiderrecht, one of the county's oldest citizens, passed away at his home in Jefferson township, at noon, April 10, aged 78 years, 10 months and 17 days. George Weiderrecht was born May 27, 1825, at Treistett, Baden, Germany. He came to this country in 1847, as a young man of 22 years, and settled near Buffalo, New York, where shortly after he married Miss Salome Sutzberger, January 9, 1853. A year later they came to Wapello, Iowa where he has since resided. Six children were born to them, George, Louis, Fred, Mrs. H. Lieberknect, Mrs. George Kreiner and Mrs. S. Schaefer, all of whom live in Louisa county.

Shortly after he settled here he joined the German Congregational church at Grandview. About seven years ago he transferred his membership to the German M. E. church of Wapello. Besides his six children, he leaves 21 grandchildren and a host of friends. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, April 12, at the late home of the deceased at 1 o'clock, and at the Harrison church at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. C. Schultze, pastor of the German M. E. church of Wapello. Interment at the Harrison cemetery.
