Daniel G. Avery, one of Wapello's oldest citizens, passed away at his home last Saturday night after an illness of a few weeks. Deceased was born in the state of New Jersey September 25, 1832, and died April 1, 1904, aged 71 years, 6 months and 15 days. He came with his parents to Iowa in early boyhood and settled in Marshall township, where he lived until past middle age, when after his father's death he came with the rest of the family to Wapello. His mother died only a little over a year ago at the advance age of 87 years.

Mr. Avery was united in marriage with Miss Mary Gildie and was the father of five children, all of whom are still living and residents of this city. They are William, Thomas, Frank, Miss Bessy Avery and Mrs. Blanche Cox. He also leaves one brother and two sisters, residents of this city and vicinity. Funeral services were held at the late residence Monday afternoon, April 11, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. M. E. Reusch. Interment in the Wapello cemetery.
