Morning Sun was the scene of a most horrible calamity Monday morning, when Mrs. Emmaline Jamison was burned to death in the fire that destroyed her home. The fire was discovered about 7 o'clock and burned so rapidly that it was impossible to obtain an entrance to the building to search for Mrs. Jamison. At about 9 o'clock her charred remains were discovered and removed. She was burned beyond recognition. It was a heart rending sight. The family consisted of Mrs. Emmaline Jamison, her daughter, Mrs. Fanny Marshall and son, Robert D. Jamison and grandson, Walter Jamison.

Mrs. Marshall says that the fire had been burning in the kitchen stove for sometime, as she had started it when she arose some time before and the coffee was half boiled and potatoes were warming in the oven. She said there was no gasoline in the house, and that her mother was very careful in the used of kerosene oil. The fact that flames spread immediately to nearly every room in the house would indicate that there was an explosion of some kind. Neighbors came at once and the fire seemed all over the house.

The horrible death of Mrs. Jamison has cast a deep pall of sorrow on our neighboring city. She was an old resident of this part of the county and was a woman highly esteemed by all who knew her. She had two sisters and a brother living in Morning Sun, Mrs. Martha J. Wright and Mrs. Wm Butler and Mr. Harvey Delzell.
