William P. Hicklin was born in Monroe county, Kentucky, Dec. 27, 1813 and died after a lingering illness, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Garrett, in Pt. Washington, D. C., Mrs. Susan Francis, Fremont, Ia., Mrs. Ella Garrett, of this county, Miss Lula, Clay Center, Kan. and Thomas Hicklin.

Mr. Hicklin was a soldier in the Blackhawk war, also in the Mexican war. As a pioneer he endured many of the privations and hardships incident to frontier life. Of quiet and reserved manners, cheerful disposition and a kind nature he made friends wherever he went. Early in life he united with the Christian church, where he retained his membership. Few men living to their eightieth year retain their faculties and vigor as did Mr. Hicklin. The past few months he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Garrett. The services were held at the residence Monday and the remains laid to rest in the Wapello cemetery,
