Adaline B. Jenkins was born June 1st, 1837 in the village of Quick's Mills, Wayne county, Ohio, the second daughter of Harvey and Abigail Bell. She died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Emily A. Miller, in Wapello, Iowa, Monday morning, Jany. 30, 1893. At the early age of eight years she came to this county with her parents, where she lived until about ten years ago, when she removed to Little Rock, Ark. July 31st, 1867 she was married to John Jenkins who, together with one brother, Geo. M. Bell and two sisters, Mrs. E. A. Miller and Mrs. O. B. Miller, survive her. Her death was the result of a complication of diseases, probably induced and aggravated by overwork and lack of sufficient rest and recreation.

For more than forty years she was actively identified with the educational work. At the early age of 14 she entered the school room as teacher in Pt Louisa twp, this county. Afterwards she was connected with the schools of Wapello and Columbus City, but for ten years past was a teacher in the schools of Little Rock. At the age of 21 she united with the M. E. church of this city, under the ministry of Rev. Claskey and retained her connection when she removed to Little Rock. She was actively engaged in religious, charitable and philanthropic work in her adopted city. As president of the W. C. T. U, the Woman's Suffrage societies and other organizations, she exerted a strong influence. She was a frequent visitor to the asylums, homes and even prisons of the city, where she went as an ministering angel. Mrs. Jenkins was a ready and entertaining writer and occasionally wrote for city papers and periodicals. Of a genial, cheery nature she won friends where ever she went and many are the hearts made sad by her departure.

The funeral was from the residence of her sister, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. J. H. Condit conducting in a simple but impressive manner after which the body was laid to rest in the Wapello Cemetery.
