John A. Houseal, a well known resident of this community for many years, passed away at his home in this city, Monday morning, at eleven o'clock, October 23rd following an illness of several months. Mr. Houseal was born in Bainbridge, Pennsylvania, July 31, 1855 and came to Louisa county in 1876. Here he was united in marriage to Miss Clara B. Buffington, July 3, 1878. He is survived by his wife and the following sons and daughters: Lewis, Rolla, Howard, Isadore, and Mrs. Fred Simmons, of near Columbus Junction; John Jr., of River Junction; Paul of Riverside; Mrs. George McCaleb, of Ainsworth; Hilton of Muscatine; Floyd, of Ottumwa, Mrs. Thomas Jackson, of Fonda; Glenn and Mildred at home. Two daughters preceded him in death a few years ago; Mrs. George Leffler and Mrs. B. F. Hetfield and one daughter died in infancy. He is also survived by forty one grandchildren and one great grandchild and two brothers in Pennsylvania, Wesley and Lewis.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock in the Methodist church at Columbus City conducted by Rev. W. H. Dillon. Interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
