Mrs. Mary J. Barringer, for many years an esteemed resident of this community, died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Wenland Knause in this city, Saturday morning, June 24, after an illness of many months. Mary J. Stark was born in Allheny county, Pennsylvania, October 5, 1845 and came with her parents to this community in childhood. In 1867 she was united in marriage to Samuel E. Barringer, who served his country during the Civil War as a member of Co. C. of the Fifth Iowa, and whose death occurred in the city a few years ago. Mrs. Barringer was converted as a young woman and united with the Methodist Episcopal church until evilness prevented her regular attendance.

Three daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Barringer: Mrs. Blanche Simmons, deceased; Mrs. J. S. Harmon, of Mashalltown and Mrs. W. T. Brown of What Cheer. She is survived by eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, and four brothers, Harve Stark, of Greenfield, Missouri; Ephraim, Joseph and N. Stark, of Davenport. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church conducted by Rev. W. H. Dillon.
