J. J. Russell, a prominent resident of Columbus Junction for many years, died Wednesday morning, December 19, 1923 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. N. Wilcox, at Davenport. John Jackson Russell was born in Chester county, Pennsylvania, March 24, 1837 and was past 86 year of age. He came to Indiana in 1854 and was married to Huldah Adelia White, at College Corners, Ohio, that same year. Ten years later they came west and settled at Old Clifton, in Iowa in 1864 where they lived until 1869 when they move to Nebraska, where Mr. Russell was engaged in survey work for the government. They returned to Iowa in 1875 and located at Columbus Junction where Mrs. Russell died nineteen years ago. Mr. Russell continued to make this his home until 1920 when he sold his home and spent several months visiting relatives and later made his home with his daughter, Mrs. F. N. Wilcox.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. F. N. Wilcox, of Davenport and Mrs. F. E. Thompson, of Burlington and two sons, George, of Pasadena, California and Harry of Des Moines. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The body will be brought to the Gilkey Undertaking Parlors in this city where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon and interment will be made in the cemetery at Columbus City.
