Thomas Madison Brown, son of Mathew and Julia F. Brown closed this earthly life, September 16, 1923 at his home at Letts, Iowa at the age of ninety years, eight months and twenty two days. His wife preceded him in death five months and two days. He was born in Union City, Indian, December 24, 1832 and came with his parents to Iowa, April 18, 1838 locating near Muscatine. He grew to manhood under his widowed mother's care, his father, Mathew Brown, dying June 1842. He was married to Sophia Ferry, daughter of Silas and Floria Ferry, July 3, 1856. July 3, 1922 they celebrated their 66 year wedding anniversary surrounded by children and grandchildren. He enlisted in Co. K 35 regiment in Capt. Abram Snyder company, in September 1862 and remained until the closing of the war.
