Mrs. E. J. Bakey, a resident of this community for many years, died at seven o'clock Wednesday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. M. Marshall, following an illness of several months. Elizabeth Jane Erwin was born near Grandview, January 25, 1842 where she spent her girlhood. She was united in marriage to August Bakey, December 3, 1863, soon after they moved to Columbus City where Mr. Bakey engaged in the mercantile business. To them nine children were born, six of whom with the father, who died August 3, 1898, preceded her to the life beyond. The surviving children are, Mrs. Della Hutchinson, of Winfield, Iowa; Wm. Bakey, of Preston, Minnesota and Mrs. Laura B. Marshall, of Columbus Junction.

Mrs. Bakey was for many years a consecrated member of the United Presbyterian church and loved for her kindness and willingness to aid others. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the J. M. Marshall home by her pastor, Rev. Jamison and interment made in the Columbus City cemetery.
