Mrs. W. C. Hendrix, mother of N. T. Hendrix, a former well known business man of this city, passed away at her home in Letts, January 1, 1923 following an illness of several years. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church at Letts Wednesday, Jan. 3. The Rev. J. C. Willits, of St. Joseph, Mich., a brother of Mrs. Hendrix assisted the Rev. R. L. LeMotte in conducting the service. Burial was at Letts.

Mrs. Hendrix, who was formerly Miss Rebecca Charlotte Willits, was born in Eliza township, Mercer county, Illinois, December 29, 1846. She was the eldest daughter of Charles G. and Rachel Thornton Willits. She was married to William Hendrix in June, 1865, the couple locating on the farm near Letts which has been their home ever since.

Ten children were born to them, eight of whom survive. They are Henry C. and Leslie B. Hendrix of Letts, Wilmot C. Hendrix at home, Norbury T. Hendrix of Clinton, Mrs. E. B. Robertson of St. Francis, Kas., Walter W. Hendrix of Pittsburgh, Pa and L. D. Hendrix of Mt. Vernon, Noville Hendrix died in infancy and Ledru H. Hendrix met his death at Toul, France, Dec. 2, 1918. One grandson Clinton Hendrix, was also killed in action overseas in September, 1918. Besides her husband and children, an adopted daughter, Belle Barger, nine grandchildren and six brothers and sisters survive. Mrs. Hendrix united with the Methodist church in early life. She was 76 years old.
