James T. Roberts was born in Rush county, Indiana, October 4, 1833 and died at Marshal town, Iowa, January 5, 1923. He was a son of James M. and Delilah Roberts and came with his parents to Iowa in 1847 locating near Blandensburg. On February 24, 1854 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Daily. They were parents of six children, three of whom, together with his wife preceded him in death. Those surviving are: Mrs. M. A. Standford, of Larrabee, Iowa; Mrs. James Bell, of Mattoon, Illinois and W. G. Roberts, mayor of this city. There are also sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

He was a member of Gen. Sheridan Post of No. 452, G. A. R. of Marshalltown, Iowa having served in Co. H, 22nd Iowa Infantry and 35th Co. 2nd Battalon Veteran Reserve Corps. Mr. Roberts was a member of the Christian church having made a profession of his faith early in life. A couple of yeas ago he transferred his membership to the local Presbyterian church. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Columbus City cemetery.
