Josiah Locke was born in the state of New Jersey, May 5th, 1846. He came to Louisa county, Iowa in his young manhood. Here he married Emma Dallmeyer who preceded him in death in November 1919. He leaves one son, Howard, a student in the Columbus Junction high school and two step daughters, Miss. Mabel Dallmeyer of Muscatine and Mrs. Hazel Jones of Concord township. One sister, Miss Fannie Locke, of Camden, New Jersey, also survives him.

Mr. Locke was a quiet, kindly man. Since middle age he has been much trouble with deafness and for several years his hearing has seemed to be entirely gone. In 1894 he was converted and united with the Church of God. He was a good neighbor and a good citizen. Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Grove Bethel Sunday afternoon at one o'clock conducted by Rev. C. L. Wilson. Interment in the Indian Creek cemetery.
