Page 1David Woodruff, one of the oldest men in Louisa county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alice Daily, at Enselmo, Nebraska, Tuesday January 3, 1922, following a brief illness with pneumonia. Death occurred at eleven o'clock. David Woodruff was born in Mahoning county, Ohio, June 23, 1829 and celebrated last June his 92nd birthday. At that time he was enjoying splendid health and was a frequent visitor to this city. His father served as a captain in the American army during the War of 1812. He afterward farmed in Ohio and then came in 1851 with his family to Louisa county where his sons grew to manhood and purchased land and identified themselves with the religious and moral development of the community.
David taught school for several years and with the money obtained purchased rails to fence forty acres of land upon which he later built a fine home which was the family residence until a few year ago. March 20, 1856, he was united in marriage to Mary A. Turner and to them were born ten children, a number of whom with the mother preceded him to the world beyond.
For many years Mr. Woodruff was a devout attendant at the Louisa Center Baptist church, serving as superintendent of the Sunday school for many years. He was a staunch republican in politics and kept well informed on current affairs. The surviving children are: Charles A. Woodruff, of this city; Benjamin F., of the Louisa Center neighborhood; Mrs. Leon Dailey, of Enselmo, Nebraska and Mrs. Will Dunham of Bussey, Iowa, besides grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The remains will be brought to this city from Enselmo and funeral services will be held at the Louisa Center church Sunday afternoon.
