Page 1The first fatal costing accident in Columbus Junction for many years occurred Monday afternoon when Gladys Meisky, the eleven year old daughter was fatally injured while coasting on second street. A band of children were making the air ring Monday afternoon with their shouts and laughter they glided swiftly down the Second street hill. Among them was little Gladys, as she trudged sturdily up the hill a few minutes after two o'clock, neither she nor her companions knew that death walked by her side. She started down the long steep slope, as she neared the center of the hill the sled swerved slightly to the side and she crashed into another sled, the heavy runner of which pierced her skill near the temple. Medical aid was immediately summoned and she was carried home where everything possible was done to no avail. Without regaining consciousness she passed away at five thirty the same afternoon.
Gladys came to Columbus Junction with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Meisky, about three months ago, her father purchasing the White Way bakery. She immediately identified herself with the school life and was a faithful attendant at the reformed Sunday School. Gladys Meisky was born at Nichols, Iowa, December 10, 1910. She is survived by her parents, her grandparents,Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mapes and two brothers, Albert and Ray and one sister Ruby. Short funeral services were held at the home in Columbus Junction Thursday conducted by Rev. W. H. Dillon. The remains were then taken to Nichols where funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Worth assisted by Rev. W. H. Dillon. Interment in the Nichols cemetery.
