Page 1Virrel Harrison VanHorn was born on a farm near Columbus City December 2, 1892 and died after an illness of three months at his parent's home near Morning Sun, November 12, 1921 at the age of 28 years, 11 months and 10 days. He leaves to mourn his departure his sorrow stricken parents Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Van Horn. Three sisters, Mrs. Bertha DeVor, of near Morning Sun, Mrs. Bernice Werner, of near Winfield, Iowa and Dorothy and one brother, Floyd, the latter two residing at the parental home.
Virrel's entire life was spent with his parents except a period of ten months which he spent in the service of his country in the World War. He left his home February 22, 1918 and returned again December 13, 1918. He was kept in the training camp because of illness. The deceased was a member of the American Legion of the Scott Hays post of Morning Sun. The Legion had charge of the service. The deceased also leaves besides his near relatives two grandmothers, namely Mrs. Ellen Humiston of Columbus Junction and Mrs. Ann Van Horn of Cairo, five aunts and three uncles and other distant relatives.
The funeral service was held in the Church of God at Cairo on Monday at 2 p. m. The sermon was preached by Rev. Geo. J. Roths assisted by Rev. E. E. Heltebridle, pastor of the church of God. Interment was made in the Cairo cemetery.
