The body of Joseph McAvoy, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. McAvoy, of Chicago, former residents of this community and a grandson, of Mrs. G. L. VanAuken, arrived in this city Friday morning from Chicago and was taken to the Gilkey & Anwyl funeral home where it remained under guard of the local post of the American Legion until Sunday afternoon at 2:30 when it was conveyed to the Methodist Episcopal church where a military service was held under the direction of Commander K. M. Arington. The sermon was delivered by the pastor, Rev. W. H. Dillon. The final resting place in the Columbus City cemetery. Mr. McAvoy was born in Chicago but visited a number of times in this city and was well known by a number here, many of whom attended the service Sunday.
