Page 1M. R. Edmondson, prominent in the business and political life of Louisa county, for many years, died very suddenly Monday morning at nine o'clock at his home in Fredonia. Mr. Edmondson had seemingly been enjoying his usual good health and after breakfast he went to the garage to get his car to drive out to the farm where his son, Harold is living. The starter on the car was not working very well and he stepped in front of the car to give it a turn with the crank when he suddenly fell to the ground. He was carried into the house in an unconscious condition, he never regained consciousness and passed away less than two hours later.
M. R. Edmondson was born in Concord township, June 5, 1865. His parents were R. H. and Jane (Reeder) Edmondson, the former a native of Blount county, Tennessee and the latter of Louisa county. On the 22nd of March 1884, in Linn county, Kansas, Mr. Edmondson was untied in marriage to Miss Ida McCleary, who was also a native born citizen of this county. To them five children were born, four sons and one daughter, the four sons with the mother surviving to mourn the sudden taking of husband and father. The sons are Elmore, a practicing attorney, of Brighton, George, who resides on a farm near Brighton and William and Harold who reside on farms in Concord township. One daughter Shaw, preceded him in death a number of years ago. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Cord McDaniel, of Concord and one brother, G. W. Edmondson, of Fredonia.
Mr. Edmondson for a number of years has been prominently identified with the republican party and five years ago he was nominated and elected as a member of the Louisa County Board of Supervisors an office he held satisfactorily, as attested by his reelection. Less than a year ago he retired from the active farm work and moved to Fredonia.
Fraternally he was identified with the I. O. O. F., being a member of Subordinate Lodge No. 365 and also Columbus encampment No. 112. He was also a member of the Silver Lear Rebekah lodge of this city and was identified with Columbus City Lodge No. 107 A.F. and A. M. in all of which he has filled important chairs. Religiously he was a member of the Methodist church at Fredonia where funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. H. Dillon, assisted by Rev. W. S. Knight. Interment was made in the Indian Creek cemetery.
