John Henry Pigman was born March 11, 1845,in Burlington, Lawrence county, Ohio, and died June 10th, 1921, at his home near Columbus Junction, Iowa, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 29 days. He enlisted at Cincinnati, Ohio, on the 13th day of June, 1861, in the union army in Co. F. second Kentucky Infantry. December 25, 1865, he was united in marriage to Hester Ann Pine. To them five children were born, two of whom with the mother survive to mourn his death. They are: Mrs. Chas. Yancey, of Columbus Junction and Mr. Floyd Pigman, of Newton. Three children, James Derwood, Ira Frank and Mrs. Lena Simmons, preceded him in death. He is also survived by one adopted daughter, Mrs. Arthur Weber, of this community and two sisters, Mrs. Vira Adams, of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mrs. Sarah Reamy of Ironton, Ohio. Three sisters and one brother preceded him in death. The funeral service was held from the home on Sunday, June 12, at ten o'clock and was conducted by T. B. DeVore. Interment was made in the Bethel cemetery.
