Samuel Reaney, for many years a well known and esteemed resident of Concord township, passed away at his home three miles west of Letts, March 14, 1921, aged 74 years, 6 months and 14 days. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, September 1, 1846 and was the son of Robert and Annie Burton Reaney. When a boy he moved with his parents to Chester, Pennsylvania, where he grew to manhood. December 25, 1869 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ann Berry, of Philadelphia, who died October 5, 1871. To this union one daughter was born who grew to womanhood and who preceded her father in death a number of years ago.

Mr. Reaney came west in 1873 and here on November 25th of that year he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Turkington. Four children were born to them. Robert and Mrs. Lee Derby, of Washington, Iowa; Margaret, at home and one child who died in infancy. The mother passed away, May 8, 1903. He is also survived by three grandchildren. Mrs. Charles Barron, of Tennessee and Rosa May and Charles Derby, of Washington, also one sister, Miss Mary Reaney, of Columbus Junction and a number of other relatives.

In the fall of 1873 he was converted in the Methodist church at Fredonia. He was also a member of the Masonic order of Letts. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist church at Letts, conducted by the pastor, Rev. R. L. Patterson. Interment was in the Letts cemetery with the Masonic order of Letts in church of the services at the grave.
