Mrs. Rachel C. Maxson. Rachel Cordelia Patton was born near Columbus City, Iowa, December 11, 1849 and died at her late home in Morning Sun, December 25, 1916, aged 67 years and 14 days. On December 28, 1865 she was united in marriage with Benjamin Maxson and they took up their residence at Ainsworth, in Washington county. They lived there a few years and returned to Louisa county they located at Morning Sun. They were the parents of five children, four girls and one boy. The boy, Eddie, died on June 8, 1874, at the age of five years. On November 15, 1904, the husband was suddenly stricken, dying when apparently in good health. Since his death the youngest daughter and mother have made their home together. Mrs. Maxson was a Christian from early girlhood having first united with the Baptist church, uniting with the Methodist church on moving to Morning Sun. The daughters who mourn the passing of this devoted mother are: Mrs. Emma Curran, Mrs. Alice Ross and Miss Veda Maxson of that city and Mrs. Nannie Robinson of Loveland, Colo. There are eight grandchildren. One brother, M. F. Patton of Columbus Junction and one sister, Mrs. Ella Eaks, of Kansas also survive. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, December 27, 1916 at the M. E. church at 2 o'clock and were conducted by her pastor, (article cut off)
