Thomas William Rickey, the third son of Benjamin and Susan William Rickey, was born in Ohio on November 2, 1840, being 76 years, 1 month and 26 days old at the time of his death. He came with his parents to Iowa in 1852, locating in Louisa county, southeast of Wyman. He stayed with his father until he was 21 years of age, when he began farming on his own account. He followed this occupation until 1894, when he moved to Crawfordsville, where he erected a building in which he started a bank, the first in town, and he remained the sole owner of this until 1908, when he organized from active connection with the bank. He owned and looked after several farms. In 1861 he was married to Miss Margaret Purvis. To this union were born two sons, John T., of Winfield, and James R., of San Acacio, Colo., who still survive. Mrs. Rickey died in 1891. In 1897 Mr. Rickey married Mrs. Maggie Adams, who survives him. He was a member of the Methodist church. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church Saturday at 2 p. m., conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. H. Dillon, assisted by the Revs. Mr. Henderson and Mr. Jones.
