David W. Cross was born in Holmes county, Ohio, April 20, 1834 and died at his home in Fredonia, Iowa, December 18, 1916 being at the time of his death 82 years, 7 months and 23 days of age. He is survived by four daughters and two sons they being Mrs. Eliza Moffitt who has made her home with her father caring for him in his declining years. Mrs. Chester Powers of Nichols, Iowa; Mrs. Chas. Clark, of Columbus Junction; Mrs. Harvey Shellabarger of Washington, Iowa; Almond Cross of Nichols, Iowa and Thomas Cross of Glidden, Iowa. He is also survived by one brother, Thos. B. Cross of Grandview, Iowa and 27 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death a few years ago. He was a man of strong religious convictions, upright and honest in all his dealings. The funeral was held at the M. E church in Fredonia on last Friday conducted by Rev. J. R. Hammond of Wapello with interment at Indian Creek cemetery.
