Francis Marion, son of Milton and Hannah VanHorn was born February 15, 1860, on a farm near Oakland in Louisa county, Iowa and died Wednesday, November 8, 1916 at his home at Arcola, Texas having attained the age of 56 years, 8 months and 24 days. He lived in this vicinity and grew to manhood and in the year 1886 he was united in marriage to Miss Mamie Ingraham. Three sons were born to this union, Howard, Raymond and one son dying in infancy. He was again united in marriage to Mrs. Eva Lang in 1894. About 4 years ago he with his wife moved to Texas where he resided at the time of his death. He suffered a stroke of paralysis Sunday morning November 5 from which he never rallied.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and one son, Fred, one brother and five sisters, namely George VanHorn of Conesville, Mrs. Mary Wolford of St. Louis, Missouri, Mrs. Jane Tecket of Conesville, Mrs. Enola Lee, of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Eva Jeans and Mrs. Agnes Hankins both of Conesville. The remains reached Cone Saturday evening accompanied by the bereaved widow. The funeral was held at the Grace Reformed church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by the Rev. Harvey Butler pastor of the M. E. church. Burial at Cone cemetery.
