Dee Jacobs, of Letts, was killed almost instantly when an automobile in which he was riding was struck by a Muscatine, Burlington and Southern train at Hogback crossing three miles north of Wapello about 4:30 Monday afternoon. The occupants of the car had been busy posting sale bills during the day from Grandview to Wapello and it was on the return trip from Wapello that the accident occurred. The Hogback crossing is located at a cut and it is difficult to see the approach of a train far. Jacobs, who was a laborer at Letts, is survived by four sons and one daughter. The surviving children are: Walter, Ralph and Harry, at home, Erwin, who is Texas with Battery C, of Muscatine and Miss Bessie at home. He is also survived by four sister, Mrs. Rena Barnes, Mrs. Fred Johnson and Mrs. Hattie Curtis, of Letts and Mrs. Mary Hann, of Illinois.
